Haitian-Canadian artist Daryl P. ‘From FIERY’ Charles explores a new musical direction with his latest single, “His Plan,” bringing faith and electronic sounds together.

Produced by local beatmaker DeflareBeats, the song promotes confidence in God and staying present. After spending six weeks competing in Timbaland’s Global Music Competition, Daryl P. felt it was the perfect time to release the track.

“I feel like as creatives, we focus a lot on the destination and not enough on the process,” says Daryl P.

The important message in the song is just as compelling as the new path Daryl P. is taking with his music.

Versatility is something Daryl P. applies to many aspects of his artistic journey. Having created music across several genres, including drill, gospel, konpa and dancehall, dance music is another territory he’s been looking forward to exploring and sharing with his fanbase.

“I like knowing I can do different things and show that a genre doesn't only belong to one race, or space,” says Daryl P.

With 18 years of songwriting experience for himself and other artists, Daryl developed the ability to explore different music styles and switch things up.

When asked whether gospel music would still have a place in his artistry, Daryl says the word of God will continue to be preached through his lyrics, but he isn't looking to restrict himself to working only within the gospel music realm.

“I consider myself a Christian artist, which means any bar that comes out of me is gonna be Christian. But that doesn't stop me from collaborating with other people of other genres or being in different spaces. I don't expect every collaboration to be inherently Christian,” says Daryl P.

Daryl also enjoys offering a new sound to his fanbase and reaching listeners from other genres, allowing him to continue growing his audience.

Music producer Nicolaas “DeflareBeats” De Bruijn says they initially had a completely different beat in mind before he suggested the one they eventually used.

“At first we were simply going to incorporate ‘house vibes’ into the beat, but then I told him it would make more sense to just do a full house version,” says De Bruijn.

Daryl plans on delving into house subgenres like Afro house and Latin house.

“I'm just going to be exploring everything that house has to offer,” says Daryl P.

American producer and rapper Timbaland launched a talent search with Orbiiit this past Aug. 18. The competition was open to singers, rappers, producers, songwriters and bands of any genre, with $100,000 in cash prizes, a studio master class with Timbaland, a live showcase at a Timbaland x Orbiiit event and an opportunity to be featured on the next Timbaland x Orbiiit album.

Of the 50 finalists, 10 were selected to perform at the live event. Daryl came close to making the lineup, finishing just outside the top 10 at No. 11. Yet, he remains grateful for the experience.

“This competition helped me get more involved with my content. I used to think social media wasn't for me, but it really forced me to get out there and helped me believe I can get bold. It boosted my drive and confidence,” says Daryl P.

Outside of music, Daryl P. juggles multiple streams of income, marriage and raising a family of five children. His wife, Jellice Pierre-Charles, enjoys having a front-row seat to Charles' creativity and says his transition to dance music feels natural.

“Of all the genres he’s explored, this is where I feel he’s found his sound. I hear his personality in it. It makes me incredibly proud and excited for what’s ahead,” says Pierre-Charles.

“His Plan” is available on all streaming platforms.
